The model material is usually called beads, and the beads used on Fuyang EPC equipment are generally divided into two types, namely polystyrene (PS-Polystyrene) beads and PMMA-Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA-PolymethylMethacrylate) beads , both belong to polymer materials. There is also a PS+PMMA polymer.
For low carbon steel castings, the carbon in the model material tends to increase the surface of the casting, resulting in various carbon defects. Among them, PS (92% carbon content), PS+PMMA copolymer, and PMMA (60% carbon content) have a decreasing effect on the carbonization of castings. In addition, the density of the model is an important control parameter for its gas generation. The gas generation of the above three materials is PS, PS+PMMA copolymer, and PMMA in order from small to large. At the same time, the size of the beads should be selected according to the wall thickness of the castings to be produced. Generally, the thicker castings should use the coarser particles, while the thin-walled castings should use the finer particles, so that the thin parts of the castings are selected. It is advisable to keep more than three beads.
Preset and forming control of the model material is also a key to the success of the technology. In general, the density of the pre-formed beads is controlled at about 0.024-0.03 g/cm3, and the volume is about 30 times the volume of the original beads. The density of the forming model is controlled at about 0.02-0.025g/cm3.
